My Tournament in Gotland… The Natwest Island Games!
Just a quick apology as there will be no newsletter piece from me the next two weeks as I am flying out to Gotland for a golf tournament! Here’s just a little bit about what I’m doing…
The Island Natwest Games are an international multi-sports event organised by the International Island Games Association, with around 3000 competitors from 24 competing islands or island groups competing in 14 sports. It includes an opening ceremony, an athletes village, medal ceremony and closing ceremony on the final night. If you’re from an island, it’s a big deal! 
The games happen every two years and this will be the second year I have competed in the tournament. Two years ago it was in Jersey and our ladies team came 4th and just missed out on a medal. (Photos above from Jersey opening ceremony and team 2015).
The golf is held over 4 days of 18 holes medal over two courses, with two practice rounds (6 rounds in 6 days!). With 3 out of 4 scores each day for the team score and all 4 scores for the week for the individual prize.
I will be competing for the Isle of Wight as part of the Golf team, 8 in the team with 4 ladies and 4 men. We have a strong team aiming to be on the medal podium this year!

In the News this Week…
With another one of the 4 majors out the way, Erin Hills did not disappoint on drama. This years US Open has tournament history made, slow play dilemmas and a battle for the trophy!
Justin Thomas lit up the US Open on Moving Day as he set a new tournament record with a stunning 63 at Erin Hills. Thomas raced into a two-shot lead with his remarkable, record-breaking effort on the longest course in the event’s history, carding nine birdies and capping a sensational round with an eagle at the final hole.
Kevin Na unfortunately in the limelight for a negative reason again- slow play! An issue he has previously struggled with, after putting his tee into the ground, Na slowed down play by holding lengthy discussions about how to tackle the 123-yard hole.
Sky Sports’ Ewen Murray branded the length of the time it took Na as “unacceptable” during commentary.
At the beginning of the major Sunday it looked as if any of the top 10 could be holding that trophy at the end of the day! However the back 9, it came down to only one player that would be victorious. After a birdie at 14, 15 and 16 young Brooks Koepka took the title with a 4 shot lead!
Butch Harmon expressed his opinion that Koepka was the only winner this weekend, stating he’s worked hard and has finally shown the world what he can do!
Near miss for Mr Fowler again, it wasn’t his day, will Rickie ever get his major?!
Anyway how impressive, hats off to Koepka this weekend!
