The course has really dried out over the weekend and is easily the driest it’s been since early November.
Unfortunately this weeks forecast is probably the worst we have seen all winter with sub zero temperatures and the potential for large accumulations of snow, which is likely to stay with us for sometime.
With this in mind we have made plans to cope as well as we can and also to keep busy with a variety of tasks that can still be completed during such conditions.
Cutting back gorse, removing a selection of weed trees that are both non native and unsightly and planning for the upcoming season with all procedures being reviewed and changes made where necessary.
As we have had such a difficult time this winter with no good periods of weather to carry out the winter program as planned, it has been very frustrating.
We are still in winter of course, but we would have ideally liked to have moved onto preparing the turf for the season.
There are a couple of winter projects still to complete and all aeration work to greens tees and aprons has still to be completed too. With another week likely to pass us by we are going to need a good period in March to catch up and be back to where we would hope to be.
This weekend has given us a reminder though how quickly things improve at Hunley. Even though it has been cold and frosty over the past few days, even just 4 days without rain and everything has dried up incredibly well.
Lets hope this cold snap comes and goes quickly and we can all enjoy a good start to spring once March arrives.
