Ryder cup Picks
The Ryder cup picks are in and Europe’s line up is complete with USA keeping one of their picks a secret until this week. Europe’s 8 automatic picks were:
Jon Rahm, Tyrell Hatton, Justin Rose, Rory McIlroy, Tommy Fleetwood, Thorbjorn Oleson, Alex Noren and Francesco Molinari.
Captain Bjorn had a very difficult decision as he needed to pick 4 more players to represent europe in Paris in 3 weeks time.
His final choices were:
Paul Casey, Ian Poulter, Sergio Garcia & Henrik Stenson
Many thought that Matt Wallace, Matt Fitzpatrick or Rafa Cabrera Bello would be in the team but many were surprised at the final outcome. Sergio Garcia has struggled for form as of late and has missed all 4 cuts in the majors this year and Henrik Stenson has been struggling for form with an injured elbow keeping him out of action for the last few weeks. However, Bjorn said that previous experience and how they motivate the team was a major contributing factor in their selection. With 5 rookies on the team already and Paul Casey not playing in a Ryder cup for 10 years, I think he has made the right decision. We will see if he has made the right selections come the end of september.
USA have selected 11 of their players, the 8 automatic picks were: Webb Simpson, Jordan Spieth, Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka, Rickie Fowler, Justin Thomas, Bubba Watson and Patrick Reed. Jim Furyk chose Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods and Bryson BeChambeau as 3 of his last 4 captain’s picks. It is widely expected that Tony Finau will claim the last place in the team although Zach Johnson, Xander Schauffele and Matt Kuchar will be trying to push him out. With an incredibly strong US team, Europe will need to be at their best to come away with a win. You can watch the Ryder cup on 28th September – 30th September.
COME ON EUROPE!!!!
