Another good week of work was completed last week by the team.
Firstly we completed alterations to Brownies Bough green surrounds.
Both bunkers have been reconstructed using revetted turf with the left hand bunker being moved forward around 5 yards.
Doing this will now allow us to mow all the green surrounds as part of the approach, improving the quality of the turf and allowing for more variety of shots to be played into and around the green itself.
Also we have managed to level up the area on the right of Morgan’s Mound fairway.
Back in March we had to turf this in pretty much impossible conditions as it was so wet. It had been quite uneven as a result and hadn’t healed in well. We have stripped off the turf, turned the soil and levelled it up before returfing. This is now much improved and will be mown as fairway in the summer.
Finally a rather negative point to have to bring up, but one that I must.
Recently there have been numerous near misses, where golf balls have been hit towards the Greenstaff without even a shout of fore.
We always try to be mindful of golf while working and don’t want to distrupt golf if we can help it. However we do have a lot of work to do and being on the course to carry out the work is unavoidable.
Please think of safety first when on the course, because no matter how important your game may be, it’s not as important as the health and welbeing of others.
As this seems to be happening more and more, if there are any further near misses, we will be forced to close holes that we are working on in future.
The damage that can be done is serious, so please take this seriously. The lady that lost her sight recently at the Ryder Cup being a case in point.
Thank you,
Greg
