Golf News around the World
There is worrying news for golf this week as one of its players was suspended for a year for failing to provide a sample for testing. Mark Hensby, who has previously won the John Deere Classic, didn’t show up for a drugs test… surely he is trying to hide something.
In other news Sergio Garcia was voted the Writers Player of the Year! He’s had a superb year which was capped by winning his first major, lets hope theres much more to come.
Thankfully, the golfing hierarchy have come to their senses and banned spectators at home from being referees. Earlier this year a viewer rang in to say he saw Lexi Thompson replace her ball in a different spot to where she should have. Subsequently, the following day she was given a 2 shot penalty and a further 2 shots for signing for an incorrect score. She ended up losing out on the major that she would have won comfortably. Thankfully we will not see that happen again, as all decisions now need to be made within an acceptable time by official referees.
There was some promising news a little closer to home this week when it was announced there are plans for Hoy Lake to become a ‘golf resort’. However, it has been the centre of attention in Liverpool with more than 4,000 people signing a petition against the plan. This would create hundreds of job opportunities and increase the popularity of the city. Due to the impact of the golf course on the wildlife there are rumours it will have to be an ‘eco-golf resort’ if the plans do go ahead.
