The Junior Section at Hunley
How is the Junior Section at Hunley moving forward and how will it improve in 2018?
When I started teaching at Hunley we had 31 juniors coming every Saturday for Junior Coaching. At this present moment, we now have 48 Juniors Every Saturday! Hopefully more of the same in 2018!
In Summer 2017 we introduced our Summer Camps. These were very succesful with around 16 juniors attending each Camp. This included using the Driving Range, some Putting Practice, lunch in the restaurant and 6 holes on the Golf Course (The juniors favourite part).
I would like to thank Luke Pearson and Sam Baldwin for their help in running these Camps along with all the members who gave up their time. It is very much appreciated!
The plan for 2018 is similar – with more emphasis on getting the juniors on the Golf Course. I believe that Golf is learned on the Golf Course, the Golf Swing is learned on the Driving Range. There has to be a balance.
This is why I have altered all Junior Competitions for 2018, making them 9 Hole Competitions. This has been done for the following reasons:
- To slowly introduce competitive Golf to our young juniors
- 18 Holes would take too long and concentration levels would drop
- Keeps the Juniors on the Spare 9 which is generally quieter for them so less pressure
- To try and learn rules, etiquette and how the handicap system applies
I hope we can all help and encourage these Juniors as they take their first steps into competitive Golf!
NEW Junior Development Squad
With most of our Junior Section now 18, we have a large gap in our Junior section with only 3 or 4 juniors actively playing golf.
The New Hunley Junior Development Squad I’ve put together consists of the 8 Junior Stars I believe are the most capable, enthusatic & keen Juniors at this time & will strongly represent Hunley in the future. The 8 children are:
- Reece Francis
- Amber Westwood
- Emily Johnson
- Jack Farrel
- William Smith
- James Hall
- Riley Jones
- Joel Lewis Wilson
These 8 children will be put onto a more challenging coaching structure for 2018.
I hope you can join me in Congratulating them on their progress so far & supporting them as they turn into fantastic young golfers!
