EUROPE WIN the Ryder Cup 2018
What an amazing first day of golf at the Ryder cup. USA looked the better team after the first session with a resounding 3-1 victory after the mornings 4 ball better ball session. Francesco Molinari and Tommy Fleetwood were the only European match to win as they brushed aside Tiger Woods and Patrick Reed 3&1. Going into the afternoons fore-somes Europe needed a big score to get back ahead of USA. What followed was complete domination from the European team, with all 4 pairing winning for the first time in history. ‘Moliwood’ again led from the front and won with a resounding 5&4 win over Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth, with the other pairings winning 3&2, 5&4 and 4&2. This gave Europe a 5 and 3 lead heading into day 2. Europe continued their domination with another 3-1 win in the mornings four balls, moliwood also made it 3 from 3. Finally the fore-somes was halved 2-2 with Rose and Stenson dispatching Dustin Johnson and Brooks Koepka 2&1 and again the rookie Tommy Fleetwood and Molinari made it all 4 in a row. Something no other rookie had done.
A 10-6 lead going into the final day gave Europe a huge advantage, but the US put up a slight challenge and at one point they narrowed the projected score to 15 – 14. However, Europe got their act together and ended on a high winning 17 ½ – 10 ½. There were some amazing results on the final day with Thorbjorn Olesen hammering Jordan Spieth 5&4, Molinari made it 5 from 5, the postman ‘Ian Poulter’ delivered again, Alex Note finished in dramatic style with a huge putt on the last green. Sergio Garcia also won, making him the highest ever points scorer in Ryder Cup history with 25 ½ points. Against the odds Europe delivered a resounding win with the US in complete shock.
Amazingly with 9 major winners in the US team they completely folded, with star players Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson not scoring a single point all week.
